Gift registry to benefit Purdue Solar Decathlon team

June 23, 2011

Faculty and staff can support the Purdue Solar Decathlon team's INhome project by making a donation through a gift registry.

Purdue is one of 20 teams chosen to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011. The teams, from 16 U.S. and four foreign universities, will compete to design, build and operate the most affordable, attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The houses will be set up and judged Sept. 23-Oct. 2 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The Purdue team of students and faculty has been working since the summer of 2009 to prepare for the event. The multidisciplinary project is being led by the College of Technology but also involves the College of Liberal Arts, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Agriculture and Krannert School of Management. More than 200 students and 10 faculty members have participated.

The team has set up a registry through Target for furnishings required for the home. The donations will directly support the market appeal, architecture and communications elements that are part of the competition.

The registry will be open through June 28 at www.target.com/lists/find. Those who would like to make a donation should type "Purdue Solar Decathlon" into the "Search by Organization" field and ship to the address provided for Bev Treece in West Lafayette.
