CIE workshop to focus on developing effective syllabi

February 15, 2011
The Center for Instructional Excellence will offer a workshop focused on the do's and don’ts of writing and using course syllabi on Feb. 23.

“You Call This a Syllabus?” will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 202. The workshop will be led by Sara Jane Coffman, assistant director of seminars and workshops at CIE; Pete Bill, professor of basic medical sciences; and Tom Turpin, professor of entomology.

A good syllabus can welcome students to the course and entice them to take it. It also can establish the expectations for the course and explain the important course policies, like the use of cell phones during class.
