Power Down Hour to be held today

October 7, 2010

To promote awareness of energy consumption, Purdue is implementing a "Power Down Hour" from noon to 1 p.m. today (Oct. 7).

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to shut off nonessential equipment such as overhead lights and personal computers during this time to demonstrate how a small undertaking can have a big effect.

Power levels will be compared with past readings (based on temperature and temporal patterns) to see if there is any discernable change from the effort.

During the Power Down Hour in April, Purdue saved 1,468 kilowatt hours. This is the equivalent of taking 530 cars off the road for one hour.
