Marketing and Media honored for 'Amelias' profiles in '5 Students Who …' series

May 3, 2010

Professional women communicators in Lafayette-West Lafayette honored Purdue's Office of Marketing and Media recently for the positive portrayal of women in "5 Students Who Are Modern-day Amelias," the October entry in the "5 Students Who …" series.

The communications group, the Greater Lafayette Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC), presented its Vanguard Award to Purdue during its annual awards luncheon April 20. The award also is meant to heighten awareness of factors that enhance the image and status of women.

The "modern-day Amelias" set profiled five women students who are pursuing aviation-related education at Purdue and have career plans involving aviation. The profiles are online at www.purdue.edu/fivestudents/amelias/index.html. At the AWC luncheon, Suzanne Shaw, director of the Creative Services group in Marketing and Media, accepted the Vanguard Award on behalf of Teri Lucie Thompson, vice president for marketing and media. The "modern-day Amelias" entry featured photography by Andrew Hancock and writing by Jessica Able and Kim Medaris Delker. Those staff members and others have contributed to other months' entries.
