Men's basketball game to feature "Mackey Blackout," Healthy Planet 2010 kickoff

January 29, 2010

Purdue fans have an opportunity to support the Boilermaker men's basketball team and two significant cancer causes by wearing a "Mackey Blackout" T-shirt to Sunday's game, which also will feature the kickoff of Healthy Planet 2010 and "Walk to the Moon."

The specially designed "Mackey Blackout" T-shirt carries a suggested retail price of $15.  Of that, $1 will go to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research and $1 to Coaches vs. Cancer, which is part of the American Cancer Society.

Participating stores include Purdue Pride, Follett’s Bookstores, University Book Store, and University Spirit.

During the second half of the game, Purdue will launch Healthy Planet 2010 and the Walk to the Moon event, which will challenge members of the community to track their steps starting Feb. 1 to accumulate the approximately 477,714,000 steps needed to travel from the Earth to the moon.

Those interested in participating in Walk to the Moon will be able to register for the event at www.purdue.edu/walktothemoon. Participants will log their steps or miles throughout the week at the same site.

More information about the Healthy Planet 2010 initiative and a full schedule of activities is available at www.purdue.edu/healthy_planet.
