Benefits reminder: What’s new in 2025
As 2025 gets underway, Human Resources is reminding employees what’s new and what to expect this year regarding their Purdue benefits. Key benefit changes for 2025 include:
Medical and pharmacy
Employees will see a slight premium increase, between 11 cents and $8.11 per month, for the first time in six years, depending on their salary tier, plan selection and coverage level.
Purdue will continue to make base contributions into health savings accounts (HSAs) of $200 for individuals and $400 for families; employees have the opportunity to earn more if they participate in the Healthy Boiler Incentive Program. The deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums for all three health plans also are increasing slightly. Information on the 2025 medical plans is available here.
Additionally, AffirmedRx replaced CVS Caremark effective Jan. 1. Specialty medications will continue to be managed by Archimedes.
Carrum Health
The Carrum Health Benefit is expanding to include spine and bariatric surgeries. Total/partial hip and knee replacements transitioned to Carrum on Jan. 1. Those who need joint replacement will benefit from our preferred provider relationship with OrthoIndy.
Dental
Dental premiums have increased slightly in 2025, but the preventive-only plan remains free to employees. More information on Purdue’s dental insurance is available here.
Employee Assistance Program
AllOne Health replaced SupportLinc as the Employee Assistance Program provider of behavioral health services for the West Lafayette and Indianapolis campuses effective Jan. 1. More information will be shared via the Healthy Boiler Newsletter, Purdue Today and email.
Healthy Boiler Wellness Program
The Healthy Boiler Wellness Program is back with more opportunities to earn HSA or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) incentive funds.
This year, the incentive has increased $100 for both employees and spouses to help offset premium increases. Employees and spouses can now each earn up to an additional $550 (employee only/employee and spouse) or $1,100 (employee and child or family) for their HSA or HRA each year.
The amount awarded is based on the coverage level selected within a Purdue medical plan.
- Employee and spouse or employee and family levels: Both the employee and spouse may earn independent of the other.
- Employee and children: Only the employee needs to complete the activity to earn funds.
- Employees who opt out may earn employee-only amounts
Healthy Boiler incentives can be earned from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 and include the required annual physical, which must be completed before payment for other objectives will be paid; however, individuals can complete the steps in whatever order they choose. The additional, optional incentive opportunities are:
- Biometric screening
- Health risk assessment
- Dental or vision exams
- Anxiety/depression screening
- One annual preventive wellness screening, such as a bone density screening, colonoscopy, etc.
- One annual vaccination, such as a flu shot, shingles vaccine, etc.
Details are available on the Earn Incentives webpage.
Weight loss program
In partnership with AffirmedRx, a new weight loss program is being implemented at the Center for Healthy Living to help individuals manage their long-term health. More information is coming soon and will be shared via the Healthy Boiler Newsletter, Purdue Today and email.
Tobacco and working spouse surcharges
The surcharge for tobacco users enrolled in medical plans will increase by $250 annually.
To maintain working spouses’ eligibility for Purdue medical plans, the surcharge for spouses who do not enroll in their employer’s health plan will increase by $125 (lower medical tier) or $250 (higher medical tier) annually.
