The Purdue University Police Department is offering free verbal de-escalation training in July.

The training sessions will consist of a two-hour PowerPoint presentation. The objective is to teach attendees skills and strategies for remaining calm and reacting more effectively when confronted with anger in order to reduce the chance of escalation to physical aggression. It includes exercises involving body language and posturing and empathetic verbal language. Verbal de-escalation skills can be helpful both personally and professionally.

The online sessions will be held:

  • Wednesday, July 24, 9:30-11:30 a.m. ET
  • Tuesday, July 30, 1:30-3:30 p.m. ET

These are all duplicate sessions, so participants should only register for one.

To register for one of these sessions contact Lt. Sarah Clark at sclark32@purdue.edu. Please indicate your preferred session when registering.

The minimum age for participants is 18. Affiliation with Purdue is not required to register.
