Forty-two team leaders have started the training process to welcome the Purdue Class of 2028 to Indianapolis and lead them through the BGR experience. Seven BGR team leaders are currently working in Indianapolis over the summer with Virginia Johnson, senior assistant director of orientation programs, to design an engaging, exciting and informative orientation experience for students. Among other things, these team leaders are learning the BGR common bond dance alongside their BGR counterparts in West Lafayette.

This dance, a long-standing BGR tradition coordinated by the Student Orientation Committee each year, is meant to create an experience all BGR participants can bond over during orientation in both West Lafayette and Indianapolis. SOC members select a new song annually and create new choreography. The 2024 BGR common bond dance, set to the tune of “You’re Not Alone” by The Mowgli’s, will be taught to new students in August by their team leader throughout the week of their BGR programming, culminating in all participants dancing together at the BGR send-off ceremony on the last day. Seeing thousands of new students dancing, working together and having fun reflects the larger purposes of BGR, which provides so many students with more confidence and connections as new Boilermakers.

Purdue University in Indianapolis is eager to build its footprint in the city, focusing on growing its engineering and technology programs. IUPUI will dissolve officially on July 1, per an agreement between Purdue and IU signed last year. Talks of a split have persisted for years, even ahead of the first official 2022 announcement.
