Seven Purdue students currently participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship are connected to Indianapolis. SURF, a program offered by the Engineering Undergraduate Research Office, provides undergraduate students with an immersive, 10-week research experience. Prior to this summer, SURF was held only on the West Lafayette campus, but the addition of Purdue University in Indianapolis allows for an expansion that benefits students at both locations. Four of the students are based in Indianapolis full time and are conducting research there this summer. Two students are based in West Lafayette full time and are doing research in Indianapolis. One is based in Indianapolis full time and is doing research in West Lafayette. Overall, the SURF program has more than 300 participants this summer.

* USA Swimming Live presented by Purdue University, a block party held in Indianapolis June 15-23 to support the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, broke attendance records along with the meet and highlighted Purdue for the attractions and the pool engineering.

A unique part of the festivities on Georgia Street was a Purdue virtual reality swimming experience, built by Purdue faculty and students in Indianapolis, which anyone could play. Media coverage was extensive and included WTHR and Fox 59.
