Reminder: Reportable Outside Activities disclosure required

A shot of the Purdue University campus during the winter season.

Faculty and exempt staff are required to disclose all Reportable Outside Activities at these times:

  • Before engaging in any new Reportable Outside Activity;
  • On an annual basis at the beginning of the fiscal year for all ongoing Reportable Outside Activities; and
  • When the scope or nature of a previously approved Reportable Outside Activity changes.

Effective today (Jan. 8), the definition of Reportable Outside Activity in the university’s policy on Conflicts of Commitment and Reportable Outside Activities is expanded to include “Participation in or affiliation with any Foreign Talent Recruitment Program, regardless of the type, amount, or ostensible lack of remuneration.” Faculty and exempt staff engaged in an activity that meets this description need to complete an updated Reportable Outside Activity disclosure if the activity was not previously disclosed at the beginning of the fiscal year.

Unit heads have a continuing obligation to monitor the Reportable Outside Activities of the employees within their units. If a unit head determines that any previously approved Reportable Outside Activity has resulted in a Conflict of Commitment as defined by policy, the unit head must withdraw permission for the employee to engage in the Reportable Outside Activity.

Reportable Outside Activity disclosures are submitted via the Reportable Outside Activity Disclosure Database. Any questions about the policy, definitions or process may be directed to compliance@purdue.edu.
