NSF officials to speak on inclusive research at upcoming workshop; registration due Jan. 25
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in partnership with the Office of Research is pleased to host an interactive workshop on best practices for inclusive research.
This event will be held Jan. 31 in the Purdue Memorial Union’s West Faculty Lounge. Doors open at 11 a.m. ET. Lunch is provided at no cost for registered attendees beginning at 11:15 a.m., followed by opening remarks at noon.
Keynote speakers James Moore, the National Science Foundation’s assistant director of STEM education, and Charles Barber, NSF’s chief diversity and inclusion officer, will help attendees learn how they can be more successful at securing NSF funding. Moore and Barber will address the NSF’s overarching goals, priorities and funding mechanisms.
In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action, Barber will briefly touch on NSF’s expectations related to inclusive research and broadening participation in NSF programs. Moore’s presentation is titled “Creating Opportunities Everywhere: National Investments in STEM Education,” and Barber will present “Building a Future-Proof DEIA Framework.” A facilitated conversation with attendees and a brief workshopping session will immediately follow the presentations.
All faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars and students engaged in research are invited to attend. Registration is encouraged, as seating is limited. Attendees are encouraged to reserve a spot early and to RSVP by Jan. 25 here.
