1 week out: Countdown to the search for Amelia Earhart’s plane begins
Next week, researchers from the Archaeological Legacy Institute, Purdue Research Foundation and Purdue are embarking on an expedition to a South Pacific island in an attempt to solve the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. The expedition will include almost three weeks of travel and research to determine if a visual anomaly in satellite images of Nikumaroro’s lagoon is Earhart’s missing Lockheed Electra 10-E.

New molecular diagnostics instruments provide improved accuracy
Purdue researchers have developed prototypes of three new molecular diagnostics instruments designed to rapidly and affordably deliver results in a user-friendly manner. The new instruments — created by Mohit Verma, associate professor of agricultural and biological engineering, and his team — can be used for human and animal diagnostics as well as environmental and food safety monitoring. 
National Academy of Inventors fellows: Nien-Hwa ‘Linda’ Wang
Purdue Research Foundation continues to highlight National Academy of Inventors fellows at Purdue whose collaborative, multidisciplinary research is translated into real-world technologies that benefit society. This week's fellow, Nien-Hwa “Linda” Wang, holds the Norman and Jane Li Professorship in Chemical Engineering and leads a team that developed innovative technologies to separate and purify rare earth and battery elements from a variety of sources including ores, postindustrial wastes and recycled magnets.
