The longer pollution remains in the atmosphere, the more it can negatively impact people and the environment. A team led by Alexander Laskin, professor in the James Tarpo Jr. and Margaret Tarpo Department of Chemistry, recently discovered that neighboring molecules in aerosol mixtures tend to “hold on” to each other, dramatically increasing the time it takes for them to evaporate and escape from the atmosphere.
Purdue mathematician Trevor Wooley has been awarded the 2026 Senior Berwick Prize by the London Mathematical Society, recognizing his influential work in number theory and, specifically, a 2019 paper that advanced understanding of a long-standing problem in mathematics.
