Earhart expedition begins
A team of scientists and specialists working with the Archaeological Legacy Institute, Purdue Research Foundation and Purdue departed Los Angeles, bound for Fiji and then Nikumaroro, for a six-day journey in the South Pacific. There, they will carefully investigate the Taraia Object, a visual anomaly in the island’s lagoon they believe could be Amelia Earhart’s missing plane. Civil engineering lab is latest Purdue facility to achieve internationally recognized quality management certification
Purdue’s Bowen Laboratory is the second facility on campus to earn the International Organization for Standardization’s 9001 certification for quality management systems. The credential strengthens the lab’s ability to collaborate with partners in highly regulated construction and nuclear industries while expanding opportunities for faculty, staff and students to engage in industry-focused research and training.

In Print: ‘Early Childhood Social Studies: Purpose, Content, and Methods from a Developmental Perspective’
Kathryn Obenchain, professor of social studies education, curriculum and instruction in the College of Education; and Megan Purcell, clinical professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science, have co-authored “Early Childhood Social Studies.” The textbook bridges theory and practice to help educators introduce civics, geography, history and economics to young children using age-appropriate lesson plans, reflection prompts and inclusive teaching strategies.

Open enrollment for 2027 benefits begins Oct. 27; resources available to assist
Human Resources — Benefits is reminding benefits-eligible faculty and staff that it is almost time to choose benefits for themselves, and their families if applicable, for 2027. Individuals have two weeks — from Oct. 27 through Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. ET — to make their selections as well as complete the annually required reelection of their contributions to a health savings account, a health reimbursement arrangement or a flexible spending account.

Indiana fifth graders will have an opportunity to send their ideas to new heights through the statewide Purdue 1 essay competition. Purdue 1 is the university’s upcoming all-Boilermaker suborbital research spaceflight.
