Purdue has announced the launch of the Center for In-Space Manufacturing (CISM), the nation’s first dedicated hub for developing resilient, adaptive and certifiable in situ manufacturing capabilities for space. CISM will be directed by Ajay Malshe, the R. Eugene and Susie E. Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and co-pioneer of the vision for factories in space.
Institutes of higher education are increasingly relying on digital surveillance, thereby ushering in the age of “smart universities.” Lindsay Weinberg, clinical associate professor in the John Martinson Honors College and the director of the Tech Justice Lab, has written “Smart University: Student Surveillance in the Digital Age,” examining the proliferation of digital tools for higher education governance and their impacts within and beyond the university’s walls.
Rao S. Govindaraju has been named the vice president for Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District at Purdue. In this role, he will strengthen Discovery Park District’s one-of-a-kind research and educational facilities, fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving research that advances the university’s strategic priorities. Govindaraju, who has led the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering since 2012, will begin the role in January.
Martin Sexton will present The Abbey Road Show at 8 p.m. Nov. 7 at Purdue’s Loeb Playhouse. In this tribute to one of the greatest albums of all time, Sexton will perform the legendary Beatles album in its entirety with his signature warmth and dynamic style.
The Presidential Lecture Series event on Thursday, Nov. 6, featuring a conversation between Wabash CEO Brent Yeagy and President Mung Chiang is being moved to the Convergence Center in Discovery Park District at Purdue, 101 Foundry Drive. The event is free and open to the public but a ticket is required.
