Storm expert Dan Cziczo, a professor in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Science, found that strong summer storms in the Midwest, as well as increasingly intense wildfires, are punching wildfire smoke up into the stratosphere — a previously pristine part of the atmosphere. These changes could lead to warming and unexpected climate effects.
The Purdue Alumni Association has named Jay Gephart and Christa Pazera as recipients of the 2025 Special Boilermaker Award for their dedication to Purdue. Established in 1981, the award honors members of the Purdue faculty or staff who have contributed significantly to the improvement of the quality of life or the betterment of the educational experience for a substantial number of Purdue students.
On Friday (Oct. 24), a grand reopening will be held for the newly renovated Mechanical Engineering Building. The celebration will include a ribbon cutting, guided tours of the new spaces and showcases from student groups who now occupy the building.

Award-winning sports journalist and broadcaster Pat Doney has covered sports’ largest stages — including the Super Bowl, the Kentucky Derby, the World Series and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Doney, a Purdue Global alumnus (MS higher education ’24) who served as the October commencement speaker, celebrated with graduates as they crossed the stage, sharing the message that they are just getting started.
