Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe announced Monday (May 6) that Eric Barker is promoted to vice president for health affairs, effective July 1. Reporting to the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, Barker will lead Purdue’s academic health efforts.

Leveraging Purdue’s internationally recognized expertise in audiology and auditory neuroscience and AI-driven data analytics, the university announced plans for the new Accessible Precision Audiology Research Center in Indianapolis on Wednesday (May 1). It will be housed in the 16 Tech Innovation District and be adjacent to Purdue University in Indianapolis, the urban extension campus that launches July 1.

On Saturday (May 4), Purdue Global held its commencement on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette — the 20th commencement since Purdue Global’s formation in 2018 — with more than 8,000 guests, faculty and staff members in attendance. The graduates, including 301 Indiana residents, represented all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Twenty countries were represented as well, including Bangladesh, Bermuda, Canada, Greece, India, Mexico and the Philippines.

Purdue has been selected by the Indiana Office of Energy Development to research small modular nuclear reactor technology and analyze the potential impacts should the technology be deployed in Indiana. This partnership comes following Purdue’s selection as the successful respondent to IOED’s request for proposals for an Indiana-focused SMR study.
