Machine-learning model demonstrates effect of public breeding on rice yields in climate change
Climate change, extreme weather events, unprecedented records in temperatures and higher, acidic oceans make it difficult to predict the long-term fate of modern crop varieties. Purdue agronomy researchers reported on a predictive model they’ve developed that uses machine-learning algorithms to predict how rice yields will be affected by climate change. Their findings were recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Bringing Our Best: Heather Cleveland
Heather Cleveland (Sponsored Program Services) kindly assisted me with a last-minute letter-of-intent submission to the National Science Foundation. On the day it was due, I realized that I couldn’t submit it directly; SPS had to do it. Heather quickly responded to my desperate email and submitted my letter within an hour of my request. Cheers! — Robin Tanamachi (Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences)
