Brandon Johnson and Alexandria Johnson — both in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences — have discovered how one asteroid caused global ecosystem collapse and widespread spontaneous combustion. The Chicxulub asteroid sent up a planetwide dust cloud that smothered the atmosphere, trapped thermal radiation and “charbroiled” any Cretaceous creatures that couldn’t shelter from it.
Purdue Research Foundation continues to highlight National Academy of Inventors fellows at Purdue whose collaborative, multidisciplinary research is translated into real-world technologies that benefit society. The latest fellow is Santokh Badesha, President’s Fellow and Distinguished Professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Badesha has developed technologies that have transformed modern printing, driven billions of dollars in revenue and sustained thousands of jobs around the world.

On July 23, Purdue welcomed Indiana STEM educators serving grades 6-8 for “Brick by Brick: Bringing AI to the Classroom,” a hands-on professional development workshop. Led by Purdue College of Science faculty and staff alongside LEGO Education facilitators, the workshop explored classroom-ready applications of artificial intelligence, coding and robotics designed to spark curiosity and innovation.
