Purdue is expanding the scientific footprint of 2027’s all-Boilermaker suborbital flight mission with the addition of on-board autonomous experiments in quantum technology and in-space chip manufacturing. The experiments, prepared by Purdue researchers, will be housed in research lockers for the flight aboard a Virgin Galactic suborbital spacecraft, dubbed Purdue 1.
If you’ve never heard of an allosaurus before, expect the name of this Jurassic-era predator to become familiar in the years to come as a planned future exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis takes shape with some help from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. The museum’s paleontology team received high-tech CT (computed tomography) scans of a prehistoric fossil courtesy of the veterinary hospital’s diagnostic imaging team.
In “Underdetermination and Theoretical Virtues,” associate professor of philosophy Dana Tulodziecki examines the long-standing problem that scientific evidence often supports multiple, competing theories, raising questions about how scientists can rationally choose among them. Tulodziecki provides a nuanced account of how scientific knowledge can remain reliable even when evidence alone does not fully determine the best theory.
Registration is open for faculty to attend the Westwood Lecture Series on Feb. 10. Sooyeon Jeong, assistant professor of computer science in the College of Science, will present “Designing Social Robots for Human Flourishing” from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Westwood, the Purdue president’s residence.
Ashley Farquharson and Chevonne Forgan have a lot in common. Both USA Luge teammates have been named to Team USA and are looking to make the podium in their respective luge competitions at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, to be held Feb. 6-22. Additionally, they both enrolled through the Guild and Team USA Learning Network to pursue Purdue Global degrees — Farquharson a business administration degree and Forgan an early childhood administration degree.
