Purdue researchers are using machine learning to train a robot to recognize a jumbled pile of items, locate the one item it needs and retrieve it in the most efficient way. It’s one small step to create resilient and versatile robots to help astronauts maintain future extraterrestrial habitats on the moon, on Mars or in deep space.
Eight Purdue University researchers were named in Clarivate’s 2023 list of Highly Cited Researchers, an indication of research excellence and influence. Clarivate’s report draws on data from the analytics company’s Web of Science citation index, which is used to calculate the journal impact factor of published research articles.

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in partnership with the Office of Research will host an interactive workshop on best practices for inclusive research. The event will be held Jan. 31 in the Purdue Memorial Union’s West Faculty Lounge. Doors open at 11 a.m.
The Purdue Center for Regional Development, in partnership with the Indiana Broadband Office, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and Purdue Extension, has developed a draft of the state’s first-ever Digital Equity Plan. The plan will serve as a road map to help assist Indiana residents, communities and businesses to participate in the digital economy.
