U.S. Olympian with Guild and Team USA Learning Network celebrates bronze medal at Milano Cortina 2026
Purdue Global student Ashley Farquharson earned a bronze medal Tuesday (Feb. 10) in women’s singles luge during the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Farquharson is the first active student from Purdue Global and the Purdue system to ever receive a Winter Olympics medal.

Purdue president, 3 alumni elected to National Academy of Engineering
Purdue President and the Roscoe H. George Distinguished Professor Mung Chiang has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering, one of the most prestigious honors in engineering. A preeminent engineering researcher, educator and innovator, Chiang was elected to the NAE “for contributions to networks and edge computing and leadership in U.S. higher education,” in the primary section of Electronics, Communication and Information Systems and the secondary section of Special Fields and Interdisciplinary. Three Purdue alumni were also inducted as members of the 2026 class.

New 3D-printing and manufacturing techniques grant more control over energetic material behavior, improving safety
Monique McClain, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, is developing state-of-the-art manufacturing tools and methods that ensure energetic materials — explosives, pyrotechnics and propellants — are safe and perform as intended. McClain focuses on how manufacturing alters the structure and properties of an energetic material and, in turn, how those changes affect performance and sensitivity.
