Purdue will lead a $19 million National Science Foundation-funded initiative to create a cloud-based laboratory that gives remote users access to advanced research facilities, simulations and AI tools. Directed by Alejandro Strachan, a Reilly Professor of Materials Engineering, the platform aims to accelerate materials discovery and manufacturing innovation for semiconductor, aerospace, defense and energy technologies.
Now in its 10th year, Purdue’s Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts program has become a national model for weaving liberal arts into the fields of STEM, health, agriculture and business. Building on this success, Purdue will launch new 2026 initiatives that strengthen civic learning, research and engagement, enriching students’ critical and ethical capacities alongside their technical expertise.
On the Purdue 1 mission, Purdue graduate researcher Abigail Mizzi is studying rotational slosh, or how liquids behave when set in motion without gravity. Working alongside undergraduate researchers like Owen Fix, her team is helping build the data needed to safely send humans farther into space.
The Indiana State Fair kicks off Friday (Aug. 7) with the theme “Always a Hit,” presented by the Indianapolis Indians. Fairgoers will hear from Purdue experts about everything from drones to food science to physical and financial wellness and learn about programs Purdue Extension delivers across the state.
