Beginning this fall, Purdue will require incoming undergraduate students to complete AI-focused coursework, positioning Purdue among the first universities in the nation to embed AI competency into every degree program. The requirement is designed to help graduates use AI tools effectively in their fields, understand the technology’s limitations and adapt to future developments in a rapidly evolving workforce.
Purdue is part of the University-Industry Demonstration Partnership’s national pilot initiative called the Industry-Integrated PhD Scholars Program. The program’s goal is to strengthen doctoral education in science, technology, engineering and math by embedding industry research experience directly into dissertation-based PhD training.
Three-time Pulitzer Prize winner, bestselling author and historian Rick Atkinson, known for his gripping narratives of military conflict from the American Revolution and World War II to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, will join Purdue President Mitch Daniels next month for a Presidential Lecture Series event as part of the university’s yearlong celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.
Purdue Weeks of Welcome will celebrate the start of the fall semester with events and programs across West Lafayette and Indianapolis through Oct. 11. This collaborative effort includes departments and areas within Student Life as well as more than 1,000 registered student organizations.
