Purdue dedicates South Hall, expanding West Lafayette on-campus housing by nearly 900 beds
Purdue officials, students and stakeholders gathered Friday (Aug. 7) to dedicate South Hall, a new $149 million residence facility adding 896 beds on the West Lafayette campus. The eight-story hall helps meet rising demand driven by record enrollment, with its first residents moving in next week ahead of a fall housing population exceeding 18,500 students. 
Brees enshrined into Pro Football Hall of Fame
Drew Brees, a Purdue Boilermaker and considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday (Aug. 8). A first-ballot Hall of Famer, Brees joined Roger Craig, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly and Adam Vinatieri in the Class of 2026. Purdue named most recognized public university in U.S., No. 4 overall in Global University Visibility rankings
For the third straight year, Purdue was ranked as the nation’s most recognized public university and climbed two spots to No. 4 among all universities in the world in the latest 2026-27 Global University Visibility rankings. In the study examining 1,200 universities that command the most global attention, Purdue overall only trailed Harvard, MIT and Stanford.

This practical guide includes a six-point toolkit to help faculty design, assess and disseminate inclusive curricula that improve student retention and workforce readiness.

Faculty and staff make Grandparents University a success
The Purdue for Life Foundation would like to thank all faculty, staff and campus partners who made Grandparents University 2026 another huge success. On July 16-17 and July 23-24, 1,000 grandparents and grandchildren participated in West Lafayette for Grandparents University, which helps strengthen connections between grandparents, their grandchildren and Purdue.

Trustees approve 2027 health plans with no premium increase for employees
The Purdue Board of Trustees on Friday (Aug. 7) approved 2027 health plans that will feature no premium increases for employees and long-term disability members — after back-to-back years of increases. The plans align with the university’s strategic approach to healthcare and the Your Path Wellness Program, and they were designed as part of Purdue’s ongoing goal of improving population health.

Tommy McClelland introduced as new Purdue Athletics director
The Purdue Board of Trustees and President Mitch Daniels formally welcomed and introduced Tommy McClelland as the university’s new vice president and director of Intercollegiate Athletics on Thursday (Aug. 6) at the Purdue Memorial Union. McClelland, who joins Purdue with nearly 20 years of experience as an athletics director, comes from Rice University, where he held the role of vice president and director of athletics since 2023.
