Over the next five years, the United States needs at least 50,000 trained semiconductor engineers. It's a staggering number driven by the CHIPS Act’s push to return chip manufacturing to American soil and maintain U.S. leadership in chip design. Purdue launched its Semiconductor Degrees Program (SDP) in 2022 to help meet this challenge. The program takes a comprehensive approach that prepares students from 25 majors for all sectors of the semiconductor industry.
Elisa Bertino, the Samuel Conte Distinguished Professor in Computer Science, examines the integration of artificial intelligence across the cybersecurity defensive pillars of deter, protect, detect and respond in “AI for Cybersecurity: Research and Practice.” The text provides a multidisciplinary framework aligned with federal strategic plans to assist practitioners and researchers in securing digital environments.
Stephan Biller, the Harold T. Amrine Distinguished Professor in the Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering and a Distinguished Professor of Management in the Mitch Daniels School of Business, has been elected to the 2026 Class of Fellows of SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers). Biller is one of only eight individuals nationwide selected for the honor this year.

Alumni, students, families and friends gathered to celebrate Spring Fest at Purdue’s West Lafayette location on Saturday (April 18). Spring Fest featured 42 activity sites, including the Bug Bowl, the Purdue Horticulture Society and Purdue Student Farm’s plant sale, and the Purdue Veterinary Medicine Open House.
