When Purdue Extension heads to Indianapolis for the Indiana State Fair's Aug. 3-19 run, educators will be showcasing exhibits that make it fun to learn about health, conservation and the animals around us.

Purdue Extension will host a field day at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center (PPAC) on Aug. 22. Field days are educational opportunities offered throughout the summer by Purdue Agricultural Centers and Purdue Extension. These events provide information about crop production, farm management and land use.

The 2018 Central Indiana Field Day will bring together experts to share information with attendees on a wide range of topics that impact the agricultural industry such as unmanned aerial vehicles, weed research, cover crops and entomology, and state transportation regulations.

Purdue University Student Farm will host its first Small Farm Education Field Day this August

The Purdue University Student Farm will offer a Small Farm Education Field Day on Aug. 30. The student farm grows vegetables, herbs and flowers on a small, ecological scale with an emphasis on diversity, healthy soil, healthy plants and, of course, healthy people. The farm’s educational programs emphasize responsible growing practices, how to market produce for profit and how to prepare vegetables to maximize nutrition and flavor.


Greenhouse workshop aims to promote sustainable growing practices

Purdue University’s Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture is offering a Greenhouse and Indoor Hydroponics Workshop on Sept. 5, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Room 1159 of Pfendler Hall, 715 W. State St. Participants will learn about optimal conditions for growing hydroponic lettuce, including nutrient recipes, production systems, artificial lighting practices and optimal temperatures for lettuce.


Purdue Extension to host Crops Field Day on Sept. 6

Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs, will be among the featured topics on Sept. 6 at Purdue University Extension's annual Crops Field Day. Drones have been generating a lot of buzz in agriculture, and this field day will allow farmers and the general public to get a firsthand glimpse of UAV technology.
