Conference to focus on family life, healthy living

May 29, 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The annual Home and Family Conference will focus on issues and skills relating to family life and healthy living through workshops, tours, food and music.

The conference, in its 99th year, will be held June 12-15 on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette and include more than 25 sessions on family, health and fitness, home management, finances, technology and nutrition.

In addition to the daily concurrent sessions, participants can take classes in the Indiana Leadership Education and Advancement program, known as i-LEaD, a three-year program designed to enhance personal and community leadership. Participants can also take tours of new campus buildings, such as the Purdue Cancer Center and Horticulture Gardens, and learn about family, social and cancer research being conducted at Purdue.

"We hope people walk away from the conference having learned about the new discoveries that are happening in the College of Health and Human Sciences and across the Purdue campus," said Angie Abbott, Purdue Extension program leader and assistant director. "We ultimately want attendees to learn things that will help them enhance their personal health and quality of life."

The conference keynote speaker will be Karen McCullough, a motivational speaker, business consultant, branding expert, personal coach and author. McCullough will talk about her book, The Seven Women Project, which helps women explore their unique personality styles and use them to their best advantage in business and life.

Other featured speakers will be author and columnist Lori Borgman, novelist Greg Schwipps and editorial cartoonist Gary Varvel. The Melody Makers of Indiana, under director Scott R. Buchanan, will perform on June 13 at Elliott Hall of Music.

Registration for the full conference is $185, and single-day registration is $95. There are additional fees to participate in i-LEaD, tours and heritage skills sessions, and for parking. For more information or to register online, visit https://www.conf.purdue.edu/homeandfamily
