Purdue campuses to host spring commencement ceremonies

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will award degrees during spring commencement ceremonies at its campuses between May 12 and May 26.

In West Lafayette, commencement ceremonies will take place at the Elliott Hall of Music on May 14, 15 and 16.

The colleges of Agriculture; Consumer and Family Sciences; and Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences will have their commencement at 8 p.m. Friday, May 14. The colleges of Education; and Engineering; and the School of Veterinary Medicine will have their ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15. The Krannert School of Management and College of Technology commencement will take place at 2:30 p.m. the same day. The colleges of Science and Liberal Arts will have their ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 16.

About 6,481 students are candidates for degrees at the West Lafayette campus, and 5,867 are participating in the commencement ceremonies. Gebisa Ejeta, 2009 World Food Prize winner and distinguished professor of agronomy, will be the featured commencement speaker at the May 14 ceremony. Purdue President France A. Córdova will speak at the other three ceremonies at the same venue.

Doors open 90 minutes prior to each ceremony. The procession will begin 30 minutes before the event, which will last approximately two hours.

Tickets are required for admission. Graduating students will receive a packet that includes a card that can be turned in at the Elliott Hall box office for four tickets.

The Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne commencement was May 12. About 1,800 degrees and certificates were awarded during the ceremony. Córdova, IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell and Indiana University President Michael McRobbie were speakers at the event.

At Purdue Calumet, the commencement will take place at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) Sunday, May 16, at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville, Ind. There are 697 students who are candidates for degrees at the Purdue Calumet commencement. Córdova, Purdue Calumet Chancellor Howard Cohen and Harvey Abramowitz, professor of mechanical engineering, will speak at the event. Abramowitz will be speaking as the recipient of the 2008-09 Outstanding Faculty Service Award.

At the Purdue North Central campus, the commencement ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. (CDT) Monday, May 17, at the Valparaiso University Athletic Recreation Center. About 300 degree seekers will attend the ceremony. Purdue North Central Chancellor James Dworkin will speak at the event.

At the West Lafayette ceremonies, two large video screens above the stage will show a close-up image of the graduates as they receive their diplomas. The event will be aired live on Comcast Channel 5 and Boiler TV Channel 13. It also will be shown live via webcast at mms://video.dis.purdue.edu/graduation  

Windows Media Player, which can be downloaded for free, is required for viewing the webcast.

Commencement videos will be available at $30 per DVD. Order forms can be obtained at the Loeb Playhouse Box Office, online at https://www.purdue.edu/registrar/pdf/DVD_Form.pdf or by calling 765-494-3933. Forms may be submitted both before and after the ceremony within two weeks of the event.

* The College of Technology at South Bend had its commencement at 6:30 p.m., May 10 at the campus auditorium, Northside Hall, Indiana University South Bend.

* The College of Technology at Columbus and Greensburg had their commencement at 6 p.m., May 11 at the Columbus Learning Center Lecture Hall 1000.

* The College of Technology at Kokomo had its commencement at 6 p.m., May 12 at Havens Auditorium, IUK Campus, Kokomo.

* The College of Technology at New Albany has its commencement at 6 p.m. Thursday (May 13) at the Ogle Center, Robinson Theater, Indiana University Southeast.

* The College of Technology at Richmond and Anderson will have their commencement at 6:30 p.m., Friday (May 14) at the Vivian Auditorium, Whitewater Hall, Indiana University-East.

* The College of Technology at Indianapolis will have its commencement ceremony with the West Lafayette commencement at 2:30 p.m., Saturday (May 15) at the Elliott Hall of Music.
