Boilermaker research demonstrates excellence at scale: Purdue ranks in top 5 in U.S. for U.S. patents received
Purdue Research Foundation received 198 patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office during the 2023 calendar year, placing it sixth internationally and in the top five for U.S. universities for the third year in a row. The information published in a report Feb. 15 from the National Academy of Inventors reflects Purdue’s status as a global leader among its peers in protecting intellectual property.

Purdue-Dassault Systèmes partnership strives to improve, accelerate and transform semiconductor workforce development
Purdue is working to revolutionize workforce development for the semiconductor and microelectronics industry, with its latest collaboration focused on delivering virtual twin capabilities to augment and accelerate semiconductor training, research and sustainability, as well as the development of new skills. The latest step in educational excellence is marked by a new Purdue partnership with multinational software giant Dassault Systèmes, a leader in providing virtual twin experiences for global industries. A memorandum of understanding was signed Friday (Feb. 16) with the company as part of a campus visit and tour by Dassault Systèmes, who met with representatives of Birck Nanotechnology Center, where students learn the latest semiconductor technology in preparation for joining the workforce amid high demand for skilled industry workers.

Purdue University partners with Ascend Indiana to help students with career and internship searches while providing one-on-one support
Purdue University has formed a partnership with Ascend Indiana to connect more students to good and promising career opportunities in Indiana. Through the Ascend Network, the initiative’s online job matching platform, Purdue University students will be able to connect with Indiana jobs and internships that match their skill sets and interests and will receive increased one-on-one career guidance and job search support. In addition, this partnership provides Indiana’s leading employers with a unique platform for hiring Purdue students.

Purdue University begins work to advance science of reading thanks to $1.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.
Purdue University has begun work to improve the reading abilities of K-12 students in Indiana by strengthening teacher preparation using science-based methods. The work is funded in part by a $1.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded to Purdue in August as part of Lilly Endowment’s Advancing the Science of Reading in Indiana initiative, which launched in 2022.

Allison Gabriel, the Thomas J. Howatt Chair in Management in Purdue University’s Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business, explains how leaders can detach from work to be more effective. Gabriel says leaders often feel pressure to perform well and have a tendency to constantly be thinking about work. While it may seem helpful to work after hours, Gabriel says it can actually harm leaders and their ability to recover from stress.
