National Intercollegiate Go Karting Series

The National Intercollegiate Go Karting Series puts academic and racing skills to the test. The invitational competition will be held May 17-18, 2016, at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race will use a "spec" racing motor kit that will cost under $4,000 for each participating university.

Academic competition categories 

Energy efficiency — finishing the race using the least amount of fuel 

Community outreach — this includes promoting Indy Car Racing and motorsports to the general public and promoting the University, as documented by a portfolio 

Design review — unique characteristics of kart designs 

Race placement — rankings after the 50-lap race
