PREFACE at Purdue - Program Privacy Notice

Thank you for registering with PREFACE at Purdue, which is operated by the Purdue University Minority Engineering, and exists to further the mission of Purdue University. Your registration with the PREFACE at Purdue is subject to the following Privacy Notice. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information is held and how it is used. 

We understand your concerns about privacy and assure you that we take privacy matters seriously. Therefore, we are providing this Privacy Notice to explain our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information, including your Personally Identifiable Information, is collected and used. This policy explains our practices concerning the collection, use, and disclosure of your information. The information we collect will be used only as outlined in this Privacy Notice.

Data We Collect and Hold

We only collect and hold the information you provide to us; for example, you may give us information by inputting the information into a Qualtrics registration survey. 

Most records contain:

Telephone Number
Year in High School/Grade Level
Engineering Interests

Voluntary Collection

We may ask you to provide personal information voluntarily, such as through forms or other manual input. This information is generally retained as long as you continue to maintain a relationship with us. Providing this information to us is voluntary. However, not providing the requested information (or subsequently asking that the data be removed) may affect our ability to serve you or your ability to use a particular service or feature of PREFACE at Purdue. Providing the requested information indicates your consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of this information as described in this policy. Information we may request includes, but is not limited to:

  • Photo Release (we have a Photo/Video release form within Qualtrics. Parents ‘sign’ to accept or decline.)
  • Race
  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Date Of Birth

Information Usage

Generally, we use the information we collect to:

  • Provide a unique and personal engineering experience, focusing on your indicated preferences.
  • Communicate with you about the program.

Information Sharing

We will not share, sell or disclose personal information of participants to third party organizations.

We may share aggregate, non-personally identifiable information with other entities or organizations:

  • To assist in providing support for our internal operations
  • To assess the effectiveness of our program offerings
  • For educational and research purposes consistent with the mission of Purdue University
  • When legally required to do so, at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation, to verify or enforce compliance with the policies and laws governing our, or to protect against misuse or unauthorized use of our programs.

We may provide your personally identifiable information to:

  • Purdue University units/departments/schools
  • No other person or entity.
