Organizations for Students
We have a rich 45-year history with student organizations the promote diversity and inclusion in engineering. The oldest organization is the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), founded at Purdue University in 1975. MEP formally advises the Purdue chapters of NSBE and MAES, and we provide support to the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Involvement in these student organizations is correlated with higher retention rates and higher academic performance compared to peers. Mission: To increase substantially the representation of American Indian and Alaskan Natives in engineering, science, and other related technology disciplines and careers.
