Get Involved

There are a number of ways individuals, businesses, and organizations can get involved with the Mandela Washington Fellowship at Purdue University:

Peer Collaborators

We are seeking peer collaborators from the greater Lafayette community who share similar professional interests, and are leaders in their area of specialization. Peer collaborators may enjoy this as an opportunity to showcase their business, share their experience, and build relationships internationally. Specific expectations for peer collaborators include:

As a peer collaborator, we would rely on you to engage in the following activities:

  1. Attend AT LEAST ONE of the following networking events:
    • A welcome reception with Fellows and community leaders on the evening of Friday, June 23, 2017 at the MatchBox Co-Working Studio in Lafayette, IN.
    • The closing graduation ceremony and reception on the evening of Friday, July 28, 2017 on Purdue's campus. 
  2. Connect with your assigned Fellow (for example, an informal meeting over coffee) for an hour or two each week in person (phone or video conference meetings will be permissible on occasion if in person meetings are not feasible) between June 19 and July 28, 2017
  3. Provide feedback on your Fellow's business ideas and share your own experience in business and entrepreneurship

We are seeking motivated Purdue University students who have an interest in business and entrepreneurship in fields related to agriculture and engineering. Students who have completed at least two semesters in undergraduate study in any major are welcome to apply. Interns will work on a variety of projects, including coordinating networking events and assisting with site visits during the Fellows stay at Purdue.

Interns will receive a $500 stipend for their involvement over the six-week Institute, with an average time commitment of 8 hours per week.

Want to get involved with the Mandela Washington Fellowship at Purdue University? We are looking for volunteers to help provide facilitation and assist with logistics during the Fellows stay at Purdue.

Attend events with Fellows

Several of our events will be free and open to the public. If you are interested in staying informed of opportunities to engage with the Fellows, please email with the subject line “Join Mailing List” to stay informed of those opportunities!

Host an event

We are always interested in working with greater Lafayette area businesses and organizations to schedule site visits, community service events, cultural exchanges, and hospitality experiences. These visits may include all 25 Fellows or we can split up the group into smaller factions based on interest. If you are interested in hosting an event, please email with your proposal or questions.
