Would you like to meet other students who share a common interest in protecting the environment? The Environmental Sciences learning community provides you with an opportunity to explore emerging environmental problems and innovative solutions. Activities include field trips (some on weekends including camping and hiking), hands-on learning, study halls, and meals together.  Get to know faculty and your peers through social events held throughout the semester.

Eligibility

  • First-time beginning students admitted to any college/school/major

Residential Component

  • Optional for Male students within McCutcheon Hall
  • Optional for Female students within Harrison Hall
  • You will indicate your learning community housing preference within the learning community application. A signed housing contract is required to apply to this learning community.
  • Your roommate in many cases will be a member of the learning community
  • Completing a housing contract is a separate process from applying for a learning community

NRES 12500 - Environmental Science and Conservation (NOTE: students who exempt out of this course due to AP credit still qualify for the learning community)

  • Wind Farm tour
  • Farm tour
  • Canoeing Trip
  • Visit to Wolf Park
  • Hiking at Turkey Run State Park
  • Boiler Challenge ropes course
  • Water sampling

  • Study Halls (with snacks) around exam time
  • Meals with professors and student mentors
  • End of semester celebration/dinner
