Purdue Fort Wayne Timeline
All Purdue Fort Wayne instructors who, and classes that, use the learning management system (LMS) will be using our newly adopted LMS, Desire2Learn (D2L) Brightspace, beginning fall 2020. CELT and IT Services have been working diligently to help make the transition from Blackboard Learn to Brightspace as smooth as possible for faculty and students.
During spring 2020, Purdue Fort Wayne is conducting Soft Launch Phase I with a limited number of faculty and students who are using Brightspace. Our objectives for Phase I are to test the LMS and third-party integrations (such as Kaltura) so that we can identify and work to solve potential issues before a larger Soft Launch Phase II in the summer. Accordingly, during the spring semester, we will be identifying and communicating and working with faculty who would be well suited to use Brightspace in their summer course(s), instead of Blackboard.
CELT and IT Services have developed workshops and additional services to assist all faculty in their migration away from Blackboard Learn and their implementation of D2L Brightspace. Please see Purdue Fort Wayne Workshop Schedule for more details. Here is what we currently have planned:
- We are working with department chairs to schedule a departmental-specific workshop (smaller departments will likely be combined), Getting Started in Brightspace, during the middle of the spring semester.
- We have scheduled several Course Migration to Brightspace open sessions for faculty to attend beginning at the end of February.
- We have organized and scheduled roughly a dozen additional, optional, workshops starting at the end of February. These will focus on specific tools (e.g., groups, assignments, assessments, rubrics, and Kaltura).
- We will, of course, continue to offer assistance after spring.
