Lean Six Sigma Training Online
Purdue University delivers a best-in-class online Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification program for students with a range of career objectives and Lean Six Sigma experience. It trains professionals in a variety of industries from automotive to healthcare who seek to satisfy the growing demand for Lean knowledge and skills. Many companies now require this training not only from their employees, but also from their suppliers.
We understand that Lean Six Sigma training is a trajectory and have developed our rigorous university-based program to support you every step of the way. Many of our students take all of our courses in sequence, but students also can take them on a stand-alone basis.
Purdue offers the following courses online:
All of the courses in the Lean Six Sigma program are 100% online, instructor-led courses, excluding the Green Belt Refresher. The Refresher is primarily a self-study course.
Students who successfully complete our online Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt courses receive their certification from Purdue University and have the option, at no additional cost, of earning CEUs (continuing education units).

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
The online Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is designed for people with full schedules and little or no prior experience with Lean Six Sigma. It provides students with an introduction to the tools, techniques and methodologies that will empower them to lead Lean Six Sigma projects in their organizations. Students learn the problem-solving framework for improving processes — Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) — and also receive instruction in the tools for streamlining production and services from end to end. By course completion, you will be well-versed in the knowledge and skills needed for successfully leading a Green Belt-level project to reduce or eliminate waste, lower defects in your organization’s products and processes, and improve customer satisfaction.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University. You also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 4.5 CEUs (continuing education units).
Lean Principles
Lean Principles is a harmonious system of specific tools, quality improvement methods and business philosophy that create highly optimized systems. It is based on a deep understanding of people and human motivation. While Lean has its roots in manufacturing, it is used in a wide range of industries. No matter whether you create products, serve customers or manage data, the Lean Principles course will empower you to adapt these concepts to your organization’s needs.
Purdue is one of the only Lean Principles online courses to offer specialization tracks, making this program a unique experience. Choose from three industry-specific pathways:
- Healthcare/Service
- General Business/IT
- Manufacturing/Production
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will earn a Lean Principles certificate from Purdue University. Learners also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 3.5 CEUs.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt online course is geared toward busy professionals who want to learn how to manage Black Belt-level projects and oversee the projects of Green Belts in their organizations. It provides students with advanced understanding of Lean Six Sigma methodologies and techniques. You will gain a problem-solving toolkit that can be applied to nearly any issue, in any industry.
Students master the subject matter by conducting a Black Belt improvement project related to their own organization. A highly qualified instructor will help with project development and provide coaching every step of the way.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners earn a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certificate. Learners also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 9.0 CEUs.
Students must have already earned Purdue’s Green Belt and Lean Principles certificates. Note that some students with a Green Belt from another provider may be asked to take a refresher course; however, this is rare.
Green Belt Refresher
The online Six Sigma Green Belt Refresher is designed for people who would like to brush up on their Green Belt-level Six Sigma knowledge or take Purdue University’s online Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course. Because courses offered by other providers may diverge somewhat from Purdue’s own course, our Green Belt Refresher helps ensure that all of the students who enroll in the Black Belt course have the necessary tools to succeed.
Your instructor assesses your Green Belt-level knowledge through a structured online venue and phone interview. If they identify knowledge gaps during the assessment process, they will give you up to 12 assignments designed to strengthen your Lean Six Sigma knowledge and address any deficiencies.
Certificate of Achievement
Upon successful completion of each course in the Lean Six Sigma program, participants will be awarded a certificate of achievement from Purdue University.
