Lean Six Sigma

The Purdue Lean Six Sigma certification program is designed for individuals who seek to satisfy the growing demand for Lean knowledge and skills. Many companies now require this training not only from their employees, but also from their suppliers.

Purdue offers these LSS courses online:

Project Management

Our online , ® Exam Preparation and Agile courses help students effectively plan, orchestrate and control projects in their organizations and, if they choose, pursue Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification or PMI Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP)® certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

The online Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is designed for people with full schedules and little or no prior experience with Lean Six Sigma. It provides students with an introduction to the tools, techniques and methodologies that will empower them to lead Lean Six Sigma projects in their organizations. Students learn the problem-solving framework for improving processes — Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) — and also receive instruction in the tools for streamlining production and services from end to end. By course completion, you will be well-versed in the knowledge and skills needed for successfully leading a Green Belt-level project to reduce or eliminate waste, lower defects in your organization’s products and processes, and improve customer satisfaction.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University. You also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 4.5 CEUs (continuing education units), which come with a Purdue transcript.

Lean Principles

The Lean Principles course focuses on the 14 management principles practiced in Lean systems for achieving operational excellence. It focuses on both the Toyota Production System and the Toyota Way. Lean Principles is a harmonious system that incorporates specific tools, quality improvement methods, and a business philosophy based on a deep understanding of people and human motivation. Though based on an automotive manufacturer, discussions and assignments extend beyond manufacturing into a broad range of industries, products and services. Ultimately, students learn how to use Lean process techniques and methodologies to transform their organizations into Lean enterprises that benefit customers.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will earn certification in Lean Principles from Purdue University. You also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 3.5 CEUs, which come with a Purdue transcript.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

The online Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is geared to busy professionals who want to learn how to manage Black Belt-level projects and oversee the projects of Green Belts in their organizations. It provides students with advanced understanding of Lean Six Sigma methodologies, tools and techniques and is an opportunity to master the subject matter by conducting a Black Belt-level improvement project.

The goal of the course is to empower students to assume a Black Belt role in an organization and, ultimately, serve as a change agent to improve customer satisfaction and business productivity.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Purdue University. You also have the option, at no additional cost, of earning 9.0 CEUs (continuing education units), which come with a Purdue transcript.

Green Belt Refresher

The online Six Sigma Green Belt Refresher is designed for people who would like to brush up on their Green Belt-level Six Sigma knowledge or take Purdue University’s online Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course. Because courses offered by other providers may diverge somewhat from Purdue’s own course, our Green Belt Refresher helps ensure that all of the students who enroll in the Black Belt course have the necessary tools to succeed.

Your instructor assesses your Green Belt-level knowledge through a structured online venue and phone interview. If they identify knowledge gaps during the assessment process, they will give you up to 12 assignments designed to strengthen your Lean Six Sigma knowledge and address any deficiencies.

Project Management Essentials

Purdue University’s Project Management Essentials course provides students with fundamental project management knowledge and skills and a strong start on the path toward becoming a certified PMP® credential holder through the Project Management Institute (PMI). Our students typically are project managers in the early stages of their careers who want to hone their skills and are considering or planning to take the PMP exam, but the Essentials course also benefits professionals whose responsibilities include managing projects.

Course Overview

Project Management Essentials is a 100% online, instructor-led course that runs for eight weeks. PME instructors engage students in a stimulating range of learning activities that includes directed study of the PMBOK® Guide (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, Seventh Edition). Students gain familiarity with basic project management concepts and terms. They also are empowered to begin effectively applying their newly acquired knowledge and skills to current projects.

Online PMP® Exam Preparation

PMP® Exam Preparation is an in-depth review course and the second online offering in our Project Management series — after Project Management Essentials. This course is designed for students who already are familiar with the content of the PMBOK® Guide and meet the prerequisites for taking the PMP exam. To qualify for the exam, the Project Management Institute (PMI) requires that you have a minimum of three years of experience as a project manager and at least 35 hours of project management education.

If you feel like you could use a refresher on PMBOK® Guide content, taking the Project Management Essentials course first is strongly suggested. Details about PMI’s PMP exam prerequisites can be found on their website (pmi.org).

Agile

This course is a deep dive into Agile methodology and frameworks. Learners gain an understanding of cutting-edge practices in just five weeks. They also earn the prerequisite contact hours in Agile training required by the PMI for Agile project management certification. The program prepares learners to sit for the PMI Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP)® and PMP® certification exams.

Testimonials

“ Excellent online course with great instructors and resources that provide a working individual with flexibility to successfully complete the program. ”

“ This course has proved to be my best career investment. It easily, and quickly paid for itself. The Green Belt delivered as many applied tools as my MBA and returned many times what that degree has in terms of compensation. ”
