Parents’ Welcome 2018

Thank you for choosing Purdue University! Each year we are pleased to welcome to campus the parents of our new international students coming from over 125 countries.

Trained student leaders and staff are eager to welcome your son or daughter to BGRi/BGR. They are well prepared to not only meet the basic needs of new students, but to also provide the context for needed friendships and support systems to help them succeed. They will make every effort to assure your son or daughter has a positive, successful experience while studying here in West Lafayette.

International parents who are accompanying their student to Purdue are invited to attend the Parents’ Welcome Program, held August 10-14, concurrent with BGRi. At Parents’ Welcome you will be provided with much information about the Purdue campus as well as the local community. Check-in for Parents’ Welcome will occur in KRACH Leadership Center on Friday, August 10, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (17:00), where students also check-in for BGRi.

Be prepared to spend time with other parents from around the world, as you begin to learn more about the Purdue experience. There will be some time for you to assist your sons and daughters with their move. Please be mindful of students’ busy BGRi schedule as they begin to meet new friends and staff members who have been trained to meet all their initial needs.

Parents will be able to meet university officials, academic advisors, residence life staff, and student leaders who will help parents get acquainted with student services, offices, and programs at Purdue. Special activities include walking and bus tours of the campus and sports complexes and receptions. The Parents’ Welcome program is free, however meals and lodging are not included. Dress is casual and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. For a detailed schedule please go here.
