This one week experience in March 2025 will expose students to the history, culture, geography, and scientific innovation of the people and land of Iceland. The untamed terrain of this European island country is flecked with glaciers, geysers, hot springs, and volcanoes, giving Iceland the well-earned nickname, "The Land of Fire and Ice". Icelanders today are still as independent and self-sufficient as the rugged Vikings who first arived in the 9th century. Modern Iceland is nearly self-sufficient when it come to energy, thanks to abundant hydroelectric and geothermal power. Iceland even produces much of its own food crops, through the use of greenhouses heated by its world-renowned geothermal energy.
Planned activities include: Viking World Museum, National Museum of Iceland, Blue Lagoon, Katla Ice Cave, lava tunnel, waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, black sand beaches, whale watching, geothermal power plant, genetics company tour, cooking class, and more!
Priority will be given to College of Science students. Space is limited to 25 students. Estimated trip cost is $5,500.
