Our award-winning Sex, History, and the Cities study abroad program is returning! To learn more about this exciting opportunity, visit one of the Center's information sessions.
About the program: This course incorporates service-based, experiential learning with scholarly study of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) history from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries in two cities: Paris, France, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. After intensive classroom study of queer theory and history, students will travel for fifteen days. Then, they will spend their final two weeks working on a final project reflecting on and analyzing their experiences. While traveling, students will make connections between historical and contemporary issues affecting LGBT communities by working with social justice groups, primarily those involved in HIV/AIDS awareness and education. In the past, students have used their research to participate in campus, regional, and national research venues.
