February instructional workshops highlight proctoring, student engagement, Brightspace, Zoom, Turnitin
The Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Office of Instructional Technology at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) offer the following instructional workshops and sessions in February.

Digital Proctoring
Feb.10, 2-2:50 p.m. and Feb. 18, 10-10:50 a.m.
Faculty preparing for online exams are invited to join us for this informational session about Respondus Monitor and Examity, the digital proctoring solutions available at Purdue. This session will include a brief overview and tour of each tool, and a comparison of when each tool is your best option.
Brightspace Deep Dive
Feb. 22: Student-to-Student Engagement
Brightspace Deep Dives are sessions that take an in-depth look at specific topics and features in Brightspace. Our next Deep Dive will focus on the tools available in Brightspace to improve peer engagement, including discussion boards and group lockers.

Small Teaching and Active Learning
Feb. 3, 10-11:00 a.m.
Faculty will discuss with peers some commonly used active learning strategies in different teaching modalities. Please note, the content is similar to the second part of the New Faculty Institute event on November 13, 2020.
Open Lab – Brightspace Gradebook
Feb. 3, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
During this open lab, we will answer questions related to the Gradebook in Brightspace.
Teaching Effectively with Zoom
Feb. 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m.
In this workshop, we will look at key Zoom features and discuss useful pedagogical and practical best practices to teach effectively with Zoom.
Applying for CELT Awards and Grants
Feb. 8, 1-2 p.m.
Join this session for an overview of CELT awards and grant opportunities, and gain insight and tips for developing a winning application.
Using GoReact to Support Student Presentation and Learning
Feb. 10, 1-2 p.m.
During this one-hour session, the facilitators will discuss how GoReact can be used for both individual and group presentations. The presenters will demonstrate how to create a standard private video assignment and close/open peer review assignments. Practical considerations will also be shared for assignment design and management.
Open Lab: Brightspace Grades
Feb. 17, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
During this open lab, we will answer questions related to the Gradebook in Brightspace and grades release issues.
Using Brightspace Survey Tool for Mid-Term Evaluation
Feb. 17, 2021, 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Join this session to learn how to use the Brightspace survey tool to do mid-term evaluations. Faculty will walk away from this session with example questions to use for their mid-term evaluation and some ideas to make an action plan after mid-term.
Open Lab – D2L Brightspace Discussions and Groups
Feb. 23, 9-10 a.m.
Learn about using the Brightspace Discussions tool and Groups tool to enhance student collaboration and communications.

CELT consultants generally provide three types of one-on-one consultations.
1. Course Design: Course design or addressing teaching/learning challenges such as writing objectives, designing learning activities, designing a face to face or online course, or engaging students.
2. Educational Technology: Integrating technology into your teaching, including helping you choose technology that best supports your teaching style and skill level. Examples include using Kaltura, Camtasia, Brightspace, GoReact, and virtual classroom tools for teaching.
3. SoTL: Classroom teaching-related research project and scholarly writing.

Turnitin Part 1-Create & Troubleshoot in Brightspace

Teaching Portfolio Information Sessions
These virtual information sessions will provide guidance on writing the teaching portfolio narratives, explain how to submit Annual Review materials (including the Teaching Portfolio) in Interfolio, and demonstrate how to use Adobe Acrobat to create an organized Teaching Portfolio document.
Work Sprints
Hosted by the Center for Faculty Excellence, a virtual Work Sprint provides a focused block of time and a supportive environment for you to work on your Teaching Portfolio/Annual Review, a research project, course-related work, etc.
