The countdown to the fall semester is underway. In just a few short weeks, Indianapolis will come alive with the energy of new and returning Purdue students. Thank you for the preparation, partnership and commitment you bring to this important time of year.
As we get ready to welcome new students, I encourage you to join me Aug. 18 for Boiler Gold Rush Welcome Tunnel. Your presence can help make a lasting impression as students begin their Purdue journey. Details are provided below.
Looking ahead, plan to be at the Welcome Back + New Faculty/Staff Onboarding Day Sept. 11. It’s a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and learn about resources while enjoying tours and treats.
On a personal note, I’m very proud to be among the 30 Boilermakers — including alumni — recognized by IBJ Media as a 2026 Indiana 250 honoree. Keep reading for new stories and watch for a second edition of Indianapolis Roundtable on Aug. 25, the second day of fall classes.

Join the Boiler Gold Rush Welcome Tunnel on Aug. 18
Join Orientation Programs outside the Madam Walker Theatre entrance on Indiana Ave as we form a tunnel to welcome over 500 new undergraduate Boilermakers to campus! All Purdue faculty and staff are welcome to arrive by 9:15 a.m. Aug. 18 to participate. Tunnel will conclude by 10:00 a.m.

Welcome Back + New Faculty/Staff Onboarding Day
Mark your calendars for an event for all Purdue faculty and staff 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the STT Building, 550 W. North St., Indianapolis. Choose your own adventure! Take advantage of tours held throughout the day, including help finding instructor resources and vision tours on Indiana Avenue. Enjoy a coffee food truck in the morning and an ice cream food truck in the afternoon. Be sure to pick up some Purdue swag along the way. Explore resources at your own pace and get to know new colleagues. Whatever you choose: Get connected. Experience Indianapolis. Stay scrappy.

Indy Amplified helps Purdue students find their place in Indianapolis
In its second year, Purdue’s Indy Amplified program increased by almost 40%. Serving more than 50 students based in Indianapolis and West Lafayette this summer, it connected interns with employers, alumni and community leaders and created stronger ties to Indianapolis. Read more.

David Umulis, senior vice provost and chief academic officer for Indianapolis, has been named a 2026 Indiana 250 honoree in the category of nonprofit and education. Twenty-nine other Purdue leaders, trustees and alumni were also honored in various categories. Read more.
