Welcome to the start of the Fall 2026 semester. With students returning, new colleagues joining our community and another year of growth ahead, there's a strong sense of momentum across Purdue and here in Indianapolis.
In this edition, you'll find key information for the start of the year as well as profiles of three new faculty and staff members whose talents will help strengthen our Indianapolis community.
Mark your calendar for the Indianapolis Fall Launch: Welcome Back + Orientation Open House on Sept. 11. Additional information is available under the Events section of the Purdue in Indianapolis microsite. The following week, we'll be having the Academic Success Building topping-out and beam signing event Sept. 17. This event will provide the Purdue community with an opportunity to leave our mark on the ASB before the final structural beam is installed.
Be sure to bookmark the Purdue in Indianapolis microsite, which serves as a central resource for news, events, academic information, administrative and operational resources, student experience initiatives, career readiness programs, research activities, and community engagement opportunities.

Indianapolis Fall Launch: Welcome Back + Orientation Open House
Get connected. Experience Indianapolis. Stay scrappy. Mark your calendars for an event for all Purdue faculty and staff from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the STT Building, 550 W. North St., Indianapolis. Choose your own adventure! Take advantage of tours held throughout the day, including help finding instructor resources and vision tours on Indiana Avenue. Enjoy a coffee food truck in the morning and an ice cream food truck in the afternoon. Be sure to pick up some Purdue swag along the way. Explore resources at your own pace and get to know new colleagues.

Sign up by Aug. 28 for reading group: ‘Designing Impactful College Courses’
The Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) invites instructors to sign up for Purdue’s teaching and learning reading groups by filling out this online questionnaire by Aug. 28. The book selection for the fall semester is “Designing Impactful College Courses: Applying Self-Determination Theory to Unleash the Potential of Autonomy-Supportive Learning” by CIE’s Emily M. Bonem, Daniel Guberman and Chantal Levesque-Bristol. It is available through Purdue Libraries. For details, see this

Purdue strengthens collaboration with Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library through site acquisition
Purdue University and the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library (KVML) announced the university’s pending acquisition of the facility at 543 Indiana Ave. in the historic 500 block of Indiana Avenue, directly across from the Madam Walker Legacy Center. Read more.
New leadership appointments for HHS programs in Indianapolis
Tim Gavin, (left) professor of health and kinesiology, will serve as College of Health and Human Sciences’ associate dean for Indianapolis and strategic initiatives, and Amanda Cecil, clinical professor of hospitality and tourism management, will serve as HHS’ inaugural assistant dean of Indianapolis programs.

Student Success welcomes Julie Lang, director of SMART Center
The College of Science Office of Student Success is delighted to welcome Julie Lang as the director of the newly established SMART Center for the College of Science in Indianapolis. The SMART (Science and Math Academic Resource and Tutoring) Center, located in the ET Building, Room 003, will provide free drop-in tutoring for all Purdue students in CoS math, chemistry, physics and statistics courses in Indianapolis.
