HIPAA does not apply to medical information you provide to your employer. Regardless, we certainly recognize that medical information is confidential and we do not share with your supervisor (or anyone at the university) except to the extent it is necessary to conduct surveillance testing designed to detect the prevalence of the virus on campus and conduct contact tracing to help prevent outbreaks on campus. Our testing and tracing protocol was extremely effective in the 2020/2021 academic year (before vaccinations were available) and we believe those processes will again be very effective at spotting and controlling the spread of the virus to the most vulnerable in the campus community.

Those in need of additional workspace accommodations due to medical conditions will follow the ADA accommodations process. Contact adarequest@purdue.edu for more information. The process requires certification from a medical provider of the underlying medical basis for the request.

Guidance on the 2021-2022 Academic Year work location was announced in late March. Leadership and supervisors had unit-specific discussions. Supervisors and employees were tasked to discuss work location strategies during their appraisal or other one-on-one meeting. Supervisors can connect with their HR Business Partner for further guidance.

Employee surveillance testing is outlined in the Additional Details communication posted July 20. Routine surveillance testing will begin on August 23. Employees (Faculty and staff) designated as 100% remote will be exempt from routine surveillance testing.
