Variety of resources available to help employees navigate open enrollment for 2017

The Benefits department has put together a wealth of resources to help employees navigate the open enrollment process, understand their benefit options and make informed choices for 2017.

  • Purdue University’s designated 2017 open enrollment website. This site includes detailed enrollment information, recorded presentations, live presentations and walk-in labs schedules, medical information, prescription information and more – all in one convenient location.
  • 2017 Open Enrollment Guides: Guides were distributed to all benefits-eligible employees containing detailed information on enrollment.
  • One-on-one assistance from Anthem: Meet at the West Lafayette campus with someone from Anthem to discuss medical and dental plan options, details about plan coverage and any other questions or requests you may have for Anthem. To make a one-on-one appointment with an Anthem representative, call 317-287-6891 to schedule a time. (Please use this number only for scheduling a one-on-one appointment and not for other Anthem business.) Appointments will be offered from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 1 and noon to 5 p.m. on Nov. 10.
  • PayFlex’s HealthHub website: This site offers general information about flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts, including a calculator to help employees figure how much to put into an account and information about eligible and ineligible expenses. Employees who have a PayFlex account can register to use additional services through the website.
  • One-on-one universal life or critical illness appointments with a certified counselor: Call 855-892-0068 to talk with a counselor.
  • Interactive HSA tool: This tool is available to answer questions an employee may have about whether he or she is eligible to participate in an HSA, and what expenses are considered eligible for HSA funds to be used. Participating in one of Purdue's two 2017 high-deductible medical plans qualifies employees for a health savings account (HSA); however, IRS rules may cause an employee to be ineligible for an HSA or may affect the tax status of the employee's account.

This tool is especially helpful for employees who have spouses on employer plans and are coordinating what accounts are available to them, and also for those individuals who are 65 and over or will turn 65 during the 2017 calendar year,.Special rules apply to these groups in order to comply with IRS regulations. The tool is designed to help simplify this complicated topic.

Open enrollment ends at 6 p.m. EST on Nov. 11. No changes will be accepted after that time unless related to a qualifying life event (change in family status).
