OCTOBER 2016 - Open Enrollment SPECIAL EDITION

Anthem chosen to provide dental coverage in 2017

Purdue began to cover the cost of preventive dental for faculty and staff in 2016 through Delta Dental, the current dental partner at that time. After reviewing the plan this year, it was determined that a move to Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield would be a favorable move, resulting in decreased premium costs for employees and the University. Beginning January 1, 2017, dental coverage for faculty and staff (excluding grad students) will be administered by Anthem.

A look at what’s new: 2017

Open enrollment provides employees a once-a-year opportunity to review and elect benefit coverage that best suits their needs. While this year requires a 4 percent increase in premiums for employees and the University, this marks the first increase in premiums in three years, and the Purdue plans continue to trend better than national averages for healthcare inflation.

Variety of resources available to help employees

The Benefits department has put together a wealth of resources to help employees navigate the open enrollment process, understand their benefit options and make informed choices for 2017.

Living with Diabetes

Anthem livens up access to health care with LiveHealth Online services

For those who have ever had an illness or injury hit them out of the blue, at the most inconvenient time – such as the middle of the night, on vacation or after your doctor’s office and urgent care centers have closed – and you need to see a doctor, you now have another option, literally at your fingertips.

Fight the Flu

The Administrative and Professional Advisory Committee (APSAC) and Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee (CSSAC) are seeking faculty and staff input on a proposal that would make Purdue a tobacco-free campus.

A mid-year benefits checkup is good for your health

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are benefits worth looking into. These accounts offer you the opportunity to put aside money on a pre-tax basis to use for health care needs or dependent care needs for the year.

Benefits open enrollment is a great time to confirm your tobacco-user status and that of your spouse, if applicable. Remember, a tobacco user is a person who has used tobacco in the past 12 months. This includes cigars, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco or any other tobacco product.
