OSHA/Safety Training

Purdue University strives to offer a safe and secure workplace for employees. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training – worker safety and health protection – plays a key role in doing so.

“Our goal has always been to provide the best, value-added services that target specific needs, in the most timely and cost effective manner possible,” said Jon Biggs, senior technical training and design specialist. “There are classes taking place every day of the week.”

OSHA Safety Training is conducted by Biggs for all Purdue University departments to help expand knowledge on the recognition, avoidance and prevention of safety and health hazards and is presented on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Electrical Safe Work Practices – (low voltage is offered every May; high voltage every August – and as needed)
  • Fall Protection/Ladder Safety – offered every October and as needed
  • Machine Guarding – offered every March and as needed
  • Emergency Action Plans – offered as needed
  • Confined Space Entry – with REM Industrial Hygiene Department; offered as needed
  • Fire Extinguishers – with Purdue Fire Department; offered as needed
  • Workplace Violence – with Purdue Police Department; offered as needed
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Awareness – offered every February and as needed
  • Control of Hazardous Energy- offered August/September and as needed
  • Personal Protective Equipment- Offered every April and as needed
  • Scaffolding/Aerial Work Platforms- offered as needed

OSHA Training Topic for November is “Fall Protection”

This session is required training for anyone that is working at heights 4’ or greater above their lower working level. 

Topics for discussion will include ladders, aerial lifts, scaffolding, and various personal fall arrest and fall restraint systems.
