Horticulture Fellowship Available

Type of Fellowship: Garden

Gain experience working in 52 acres of gardens and grounds with contemporary and historic areas
including Oldfields, a Country Place Era estate designated as a National Historic Landmark. A
highly trained and motivated full-time staff works with fellows on a rotating basis. Features
include a formal garden, cutting garden, mature and new perennial gardens, rain gardens, intensive
green roof, annual plantings, and glasshouses.


1. Work with all Horticulture staff in weekly intervals as assigned. Some weekend hours
will be required.

2. Assist in good cultural care and grooming of plants and gardens, including planting,
weeding, deadheading, pruning, mulching, edging, and watering. Assist with garden installations by
planting trees and shrubs, laying sod and mulch and preparing planting sites.

3. Select and display blooming flowers weekly to highlight plants of interest for the
public. Assist Plant Records Specialist with database and plant labeling.

4. Provide horticulture information to the public through working with volunteers and
assisting greenhouse guests. Emphasis placed on learning new plants with required weekly plant
