Peter Hirst hosted 7 classes of 3rd graders from West Lafayette Elementary School at the Meigs farm. As well as learning about apples, the kids learned about genetics, mitosis, math, health, and nutrition. Thanks to Chloe Richard, Paul Howard and Jay Young at Meigs for their able assistance.


Several FFA Chapters visited the College of Agriculture and toured several departments while attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. On Saturday, the department hosted 225 youth participants from across Indiana for the 4-H/FFA State Horticulture Career Development Event. This event was coordinated by Kathryn Orvis and Tony Carrell from the State 4-H office. This event is designed to teach skills necessary in the horticulture and landscape industry. The HLA Department participated in the Rainbow Callout on September 6 at the Co-Rec.  The booth handed out carnations and other HLA swag to attendees. On Saturday, August 13th, Vicki Stirm will be doing an outreach for HLA with high school students from the Center for Leadership Development and Soul Food Project Indy. The Center for Leadership Development is a part of the Indianapolis Youth Development Program. The outreach will involve plant science activities.
