The 2023 Pinney Purdue Hort Crew has got off to a great start this season. Heather Banas, Jorden Clemens, and Maverick Jackson are working with Liz Maynard on projects in the field and high tunnels, from brassicas to tomatoes, pumpkins and sweet corn.
Emily Usher, Liz Maynard and Becky Traldi were joined by Carmen Blubaugh (University of Illinois) in presenting “Imagining a Diverse Corn Belt” on March 10 as part of the Soil Health Week organized by the Illinois Stewardship Alliance.
Liz Maynard, Becca Koetz (Purdue Extension Lake County), Petrus Langenhoven, and Ashley Adair were awarded a grant from the Mary S. Rice Foundation titled “Equipment for Small Acreage and Urban Vegetable Farms.” The grant will fund purchase of equipment for use at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center in intensively managed production systems.
The 2023 Indiana Horticultural Conference and Expo was held January 23 and 24 at the Beck Agricultural Center in West Lafayette. The Conference consisted of educational tracks in fresh vegetables, apples, small fruits, farming basics, food safety, and business & marketing.
